WOEID - WHERE ON EARTH ID

Where on earth is the most asked question by peoples to locate something on the earth.

Currently only available solution is we use latitude and longitude to mark something.

With the current technology online maps show the clear latitude and longitude points of something from the earth.

Latitude points vary from -90 to +90 and longitude varies -180 to +180 total 360.

Latitude is north and south pole a vertical line.
Longitude is horizontal east to west.

Then why we need woeid?

Consider two buildings are nearer, say 63.665469, 9.6570054 Is first building and building 2 will be 63.664365 , 9.649899

There is only slight value difference in lat and lon.

When representing it in computer, the computer or application may round the values or so can happen.

Due to this the accuracy will be lost.
May point to another area some time.

But woeid is the compiled one 32 alpha character representation of unique id.

Which was conceptually developed by yahoo for twitter applications.

Still in development stage.

How feasible it will be

As most map applications already know the major places on earth with accurate data, it is more easy for them to compile the latitude longitude data into WOEID.
